1. Do Carry Warm Clothing
This is the most important thing to remember that you need to carry warm clothes like woolen sweaters , leather jackets , socks , mufflers, gloves etc. If you visit the mountain places of North India then you must carry gloves , caps or scarfs to cover your face and hands also properly as the main motive is to keep yourself warm and cozy so that you can enjoy your trip without getting sick . Do not carry so many clothes as it will be difficult for you to manage . Just carry some good quality and stylish clothes that will keep you warm and will make you look classy too during your vacation.
2. Comfortable shoes
You need to carry good quality shoes that are comfortable because you have to walk a lot when traveling and if you are going to any hilly area then you should definitely carry long boots as walking or hiking in them will be more convenient and you will feel more relaxed.
Also bring slippers or flip flops that you can wear while in the hotel or at the airport etc.
3. Important Medicines
When you travel in winters there are chances that you might get cold or some people feel sick while traveling so carrying medicines is the best choice because you may need them anytime during your vacations. Although most of these medicines are easily available at Indian medical stores. So bring necessary medicines like band aid , cold and flu tablets , cough syrup , Diarrhoea Medicine etc.
4. Carry a thermal water bottle
I feel that carrying a thermal water bottle is a great idea in which you can keep water and keep yourself hydrated and in winters it is really good to drink hot water to stay warm . So fill your bottle with water or any drink of your choice and carry with you wherever you go.
5. Skincare products
Taking care of your skin is very important in one’s life and when you are traveling you should prepare your skin before going out because in winters the skin feels very dry and you should moisturize it regularly . So you should definitely carry cold winter creams , sunscreen ,or lip balm for chapped lips.
6. Backpack
I recommend you to carry a light backpack with you especially if you are planning your trip to the mountains because in this backpack you can carry your essential items like phone, water bottle, charger, food or even some extra warm clothes. You can easily carry this bag on your back if you are out for the whole day and not have to always worry about your belongings while walking or doing sightseeing because they are safe in your backpack. And you should carry it always if you are travelling in winters or summers. I also carry a backpack when I travel and trust me it is a lot easier to carry all the items so they don't get lost.
7. Bring Umbrella
Sometimes the climate changes suddenly and it is unpredictable . So you should carry the umbrella and be ready with it always in case of rainfall.
8. Power Bank
This should be on your list as it is very important to keep a power bank handy because there are times you cannot charge your phone because you are out and phones are always in use. Some are clicking pictures , listening to songs or talking on the phone . If you have a power bank you can use your phone without worrying about the battery. You should carry it with you always even if you are travelling in summers because it is an essential item nowadays.
I think these are some necessary items that you must pack and carry them with you while traveling to India in the winter season . I am sure these things will be useful for you while traveling.
Just a General Idea...
- ORS (oral rehydration salts) packets and activated charcoal capsules. If you do happen to get Delhi belly, these will be your best friends. Make sure you stay hydrated – it’s the dehydration that makes you sick.
- Small bottles of hand sanitizing gel and small Kleenex / tissue packets. You will find out quickly why they’re both integral.
- Earplugs and head phones. You may need them
- Electrical adapter.
- Headlamp or good-quality small flashlight (for reading on the train and power outages)
- Rest easy bed bug spray
- Money belt.
- A daypack and/or a small-ish bag you can carry very safely. The kind that’s got a wide strap and fits under your armpit is perfect for crowded situations such as bazaars and railway stations.
- Reusable water bottle. Please don’t add to India’s plastic bottle pollution problem
- Small thermos. I have a great little thermos I call the “bullet.” I fill it up with tea on the road.
- Modest clothing. It is not really a good idea to wear scanty clothes in India. I know some people do it, but I personally think it is disrespectful. When in Rome and all that. In fact, I recommend bringing very few items of clothing and making a beeline for Fabindia (the Gap of India). Indian clothes are inexpensive, colourful, comfortable and they suit the climate and the culture. Indians will appreciate your attempt to bridge cultures and show respect and they will be even more open towards you.
